Vietnamese Girl Kim Nguyen Shot Killed by online Stalker Bay Area (San Mateo) Asian Mother of 2
BackA mother and a gunman who died following a shootout involving officers at a San Mateo home Tuesday appear to have been killed in a murder-suicide, police said Wednesday. Speaking at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer announced that preliminary reports from the county coroner have revealed that 24-year-old Loan Kim Nguyen was killed by the gunfire of Raymond Gee, 22, of Oakland, as he opened fire on Nguyen while she lowered her two children to officers at her home at 29 Hobart Ave. Gee, who had allegedly waited outside Nguyen's home for her husband to leave for work, was found dead inside a rear bedroom of the home with a single gunshot wound to the head. Gee's death was preliminarily ruled a suicide, police said. Investigators believe that Lee was a stalker, and that he had pursued Nguyen through the Internet before Tuesday's chain of events, which began when Nguyen's husband contacted police shortly after 9:30 a.m. to report that she had sent him a text message about being robbed at gunpoint. Manheimer said that as officers arrived at the home in response to the husband's 911 call, they saw the armed suspect beating Nguyen through a front window. They attempted to enter but Gee fired a shot from a handgun prompting police to retreat. A SWAT team was called in and hostage negotiators attempted to contact Gee. He refused to negotiate, Manheimer said. At that time, Nguyen had barricaded herself and her children, ages 1 and 3, in a back bedroom. She was in contact with officers and told them she wanted to lower the children out the window. At one point while Nguyen was handing her children to officers, Gee began shooting through a wall toward her and the officers. SWAT team members returned fire as the children were rushed to safety, police said. While Nguyen was still in the window she was hit by gunfire and "crumpled down," Manheim said. Officers entered the home and removed Nguyen, who was taken to Stanford Hospital where she later died. Meanwhile, the neighborhood where the home invasion robbery occurred has left an community unaccustomed to violence searching for answers. "You heard the gunfire, and then literally like 30 seconds later these officers are running down the street with the babies in their arms," said Anthony Peterson, who saw the rescue from his office window at Prudential Financial.
